Lately I’ve worked on some song parodies. I print out the words to the real song, pull up the thesaurus and rhyming dictionary and I’m off. I don’t think Weird Al has anything to worry about (yet) but I had a good time writing these and hope you enjoy reading them.
Mansplainer
A Song Parody of Maneater by Hall and Oates
The information boss,
He’s never at a loss,
Any topic, he can yammer on.
It doesn’t matter
If you’re rolling your eyes
Or stifling a yawn.
Knowledge from A to Z
Lucky us, we get it for free
Loving his own voice, thinks we’re all amazed
Try to jump in there
But he’s holding his ground
This blowhard can’t be fazed
Chorus
Oh no, here he comes
Watch out, girl, he interrupts
Oh no, here he comes
He’s a mansplainer
Oh no, here he comes
Yapping till our brains are numb
Oh no, here he comes
He’s a mansplainer
Your very own PhD
He’ll explain it to you, explain it to me
Where the heck does this dude get the gall?
Watching and waiting
For a chance to escape
This vociferous know-it-all
Chorus
Oh no, here he comes
Watch out, girl, he interrupts
Oh no, here he comes
He’s a mansplainer
Oh no, here he comes
Yapping till our brains are numb
Oh no, here he comes
He’s a mansplainer
Repeat Chorus and fade
I Love Trader Joe’s
A Song Parody of I Love Rock and Roll by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
I’ve got my shopping list and reusable bag
Room for all the treats I’m gonna snag
I love the tiki theme
The aisles seem to gleam
I can tell there’s something here
That’s perfect for me, yeah me
Exciting seasonal products
Waiting for me, yeah me, singin’
I love Trader Joe’s
So put another wine in the buggy, baby
I love Trader Joe’s
So go and grab a cart and shop with me
Hawaiian shirts on all the cheerful crew
Ringing bells and shouting “Hi!” to you
Roasted plantain chips
Boneless chicken strips
All these goodies are going home with me, yeah me
Cookie butter waiting there for me, yeah me, singin’
I love Trader Joe’s
Gotta try the coffee sample, baby
I love Trader Joe’s
Grab a tiny cup and sip with me
Affordable and yet exotic too
Tortilla chips in red and white and blue
Maple butter’s sweet
Gnocchi can’t be beat
And there’s Two-Buck Chuck
The wine that’s perfect for me, yeah me
I’m on a budget so these prices
Bring a smile to me, yeah me, singin’
I love Trader Joe’s
They’re giving away free hummus, baby
I love Trader Joe’s
Go and grab your share and snack with me
I love Trader Joe’s
So put another wine in the buggy, baby
I love Trader Joe’s
So go and grab a cart and shop with me
Repeat chorus and fade
